Anne Marie May, Coach
Anne Marie has been an athlete all her life. Growing up she played every sport that was available, which allowed her to explore many different forms of fitness and constantly be involved in competitive athletics. College brought her to Santa Barbara, where she walked on to both the UCSB Women’s Water Polo and Swimming teams, through which she became a five year Division 1 varsity athlete, team captain, NCAA All-American, and Olympic Trials semi-finalist in 2008 and qualifier in 2012.
Over the years, Anne Marie learned through her extensive experience in sports that she flourishes when she is part of a team, and loves to compete alongside her friends in an athletic setting. After retiring from swimming, Anne Marie was introduced to CrossFit by a friend and was immediately hooked – she loves how dynamic, challenging, and varied CrossFit is, but she is most strongly drawn to the camaraderie and community that CrossFit naturally encourages among its participants.
Anne Marie loves to compete and is continually striving for her own improvement as an athlete, but also loves to coach, teach, and help others to achieve their goals as well. She finds herself happiest in a cooperative, supportive training atmosphere, and that is what she tries to create and nurture as a coach and as an athlete. She also appreciates that in CrossFit you can laugh, have fun, AND train hard all in the same workout – it’s the best of all worlds!
